The day I heard of Marisa Peer and her unique approach to hypnotherapy was a transformational day in my life. I had been working coaching clients in holistic wellness for a few years when I first heard of Rapid Transformational Therapy and was getting a bit frustrated with the backsliding that would occur with clients 6 months to 1 year after working with them. I knew there was something more to helping clients with behavioral patterns, I just hadn’t been introduced to it yet. Chime in that famous saying…”When the student is ready, the teacher will appear,” J The student was me, and the teacher was my mentor, Marisa Peer.
So, what is Rapid Transformational Therapy? RTT embraces many of the positive aspects of hypnosis and hypnotherapy that are known to produce a transformative effect on clients: the use of trance, regression and hypnotic conditioning. It is considered a neuroscience-based therapeutic approach that combines the most beneficial principles of hypnotherapy, psychotherapy, neurolinguistic programming, and cognitive behavioral therapy. RTT goes beyond traditional hypnotherapy, diagnosing what works with real clients in real sessions to build a new therapeutic approach. It is said to reap a variety of life-changing benefits quickly and efficiently. Because it is a relatively new technique, I am dedicating this blog post to it.
The founder of the method, Marisa Peer, identified that regardless of their issue, in sessions clients benefitted from her applying a particular set of techniques over and over again. These insights provided the foundations for Rapid Transformational Therapy to emerge as a distinctive approach. Marisa has spent over thirty years treating clients that range from you and me, to Olympic athletes, to royalty, to celebrities, and CEOs. Once known as the Marisa Peer Method, Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) received multiple international awards for its efficacy beginning in 2018 and has trained over 10,000+ therapists as of 2021.
While there is no one size fits all formula that helps everyone, every time, RTT is a favored modality because of its efficiency and effectiveness. It’s effectiveness comes from the fact that the subconscious mind houses our limiting beliefs and blockages and when we tap into it with RTT, we are able to see major shifts in our physical, mental and emotional health. In addition to the transformative effect that RTT brings to the table, it can be for a wide array of behavior patterns or issues you might be struggling with – weight loss, anxiety, fear of failure, depression, emotional eating, chronic pain, sleep issues, etc.
I underwent RTT myself before starting my RTT training and becoming an RTT therapist. I was blown away by the memories that came forward that ultimately formed my beliefs around food. Once I had the awareness that I had habitually been using food (specifically sugary foods) as throw-back to happier times in my childhood, it was easy to start transforming my beliefs around what food should actually provide and represent in my adult life. This took 1 session, and I listened to my recording religiously for 21 days, just as I instruct my clients to do now.
Now, not every issue can be addressed and resolved in one session, but what I have seen in my practice to date is that most issues we struggle with can be. This tends to be the reason RTT is favored over other therapy methods – the time frame that people see sustainable change in.
An RTT session starts with a very specific intake form so your practitioner has everything they need to inform your session before you start. Once in session, there may be 5-10 minutes to discuss specifics and details, but after that point, you begin the process. Every RTT session has a similar template and lasts about 1.5-2 hours. You begin with an induction into a hypnotic state, and then you are regressed back to three memories targeting your issue. After this, you are guided to do inner child healing work and heal these memories and what they represent. You are then given positive reinforcement messaging and given a recording after your session to listen to for 21 days post-session. For my clients, I meet with them once again after their 21 days are through and give them any guidance they might need going forward!
